Amritsar, May 10: For Mohinder Singh Gill, 75, and his wife Daljinder Kaur, 65, their wish of having a child took nearly 46 years to come true.
Daljinder underwent two years of in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment at a fertility clinic – The National Fertility Centre in Hisar, in the northern state of Haryana.
The couple’s own egg and sperm were used for fertilization and on April 19, this year the couple had a male child, whom they named Arman (meaning wish/ desire) who weighed 2 kg at birth.
While the clinic claimed that Daljinder is 72 years old, she herself without a birth certificate, she herself put her age at about 70. Similarly, her husband believes he is 79-year-old.
Married for 46 years, the couple had almost lost hope of ever having a child but “God heard our prayers. My life feels complete now. I am looking after the baby all by myself, I feel so full of energy.
“My husband is also very caring and helps me as much as he can,” Daljinder said from Amritsar.’
Born in Rasulpur village of Tarn Taran district, she got married on October 7, 1970, family and friends asked her to “adopt a baby, but I never wanted to. I had faith in Almighty, and knew I will bear my child one day.
An (IVF) advertisement nudged their desire for their own child and after two failed attempts, Daljinder finally gave birth to a baby boy.
“Waheguru has answered my prayers.”
Mohinder is a farmer but has now leased out his land in Kharar and lives in Amritsar and is unfazed about their age, saying God would watch over their child. He is eagerly looking forward to their son going to school.
“He will go to a good school.”
Anurag Bishnoi, who runs the fertility clinic in Hisar said that although initially sceptical about IVF for the couple, went ahead after the Daljinder passed all tests to be able to carry the baby to full term.
In 2008, resident of Jind district in Haryana, Rajo Devi had become world’s oldest mother at the age of 70 after the birth of a girlchild.
