Wyndham Council Youth Services yesterday announced Sri Thivashia (Sasha) Sri Deenathayalan as the November recipient of the One Wyndham award.
One Wyndham recipients are residents aged between 12 and 25 who positively contribute to the Wyndham community and are role models to other young people.
The Council selects a Wyndham resident to be awarded the ‘young person of the month’.
Winners are awarded a $200 gift voucher of their choice and other prizes.
November recipient, Sri Thivashia Sri (Sasha) Deenathayalan is passionate about social justice and works hard to build connection in her community.
Sasha is the youth representative on the Wyndham West District Advisory Committee and dedicates her time to ensure young people are being heard in the community.
As school captain, Sasha is driven to improve communication between students and the school.
Currently in Year 12, studying VCE, her studies include Psychology, Legal Studies and English and Methods.
“I would like to go to Deakin University to study a double degree of International Studies and Law”.
But alongside, Sasha is also passionate about the environment and has organised clean up days for Wyndham residents.
Director of City Life, Allison Kenwood said the One Wyndham award enables young people to be inspired by the work of their peers.
“The time, dedication and passion of each young person has a positive impact not only on the people around them, but on Wyndham as a whole.” Ms Kenwood said.
“We celebrate the ways youth are engaging in Wyndham life be it through volunteering, advocacy or innovation.”
“We value their contribution in making Wyndham a thriving and supportive place.”
Sasha also hopes to be able to advocate for minority groups upon completion of her studies.
“Ultimately, my goal is to educate as much of the future generation as I possibly can in order to promote an equal future.
“One day, I wish to become a lawyer so I can fulfil these hopes and dreams to the best of my ability”.
