Hoppers Crossing, August 30: The Grange P-12 College in Melbourne’s west is the second mainstream school in Victoria to introduce Hindi as a language subject in its curriculum.

Hindi was introduced this year at the primary campus of the College beginning from P-2 grade levels, which is expected to be extended to higher levels in the near future.

Hindi was introduced at year 7 at the Secondary Campus of the Grange in 2015, which has now been extended to year 8, this year.

The primary campus of The Grange P-12 College celebrated 70th Indian Independence Day, with great enthusiasm, at a Friday Assembly on August 12; organised as part of the Hindi classes being run for all P-2 students.

A group of 30 students participated in the cultural activities – including a speech on Indian Independence Day and rendition of Indian National Anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’.

Almost 350 Indian flags made by P-2 students in their Hindi sessions were being waved around the hall as students proudly went around singing in their Indian traditional costumes.

Hindi teacher at the Grange, Mrs. Renu Gupta has also initiated an extra weekly lunchtime class for all ages, particularly, to enable interested students of Grades 3-6 to undertake studies of the Hindi language.

Rangebank Primary School in Melbourne’s south east, was the first primary school in Victoria to introduce Hindi as a language option, to all its students.
