Melbourne, August 16: Breakfast is widely regarded by Australian adults as the most important meal of the day, however, according to the ABS, more than 1 in 10 Australian adults are missing breakfast each morning.
To minimise the urge to reach for high energy, high fat foods throughout the day, contributing towards expanding waist lines, begin each day with a balanced breakfast, containing fibre, carbohydrates and certain vitamins and minerals.
Advanced Sports Dietitian and consulting Dietitian to Boost Juice Lisa Middleton, finds one of the biggest mistakes she sees clients make is simply not eating enough protein.
“Protein-rich foods can help you feel full for longer and provide a range of important vitamins and minerals. Aim for around 20g protein at the morning meal, especially important if you exercise regularly to assist muscle recovery,” recommends Middleton.
We depend on our health to perform our daily tasks, where our health is largely dependent on what we put into our bodies.
The Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA) encourages all Australians adults to consume a healthy breakfast, as it assists in fueling good mental health function and overall bodily nutrition. Improving “… alertness, concentration, mental performance, mood and memory”, says DAA.
Middleton, believes that to operate at our optimum capacity, day-in-day-out, it all begins with starting the day the right way – with a balanced breakfast.
“Denying your body each morning from a nutrient rich, high fibre, and high protein breakfast, is denying your body the ability to operate at its prime”, says Lisa Middleton.
“Fuelling your body with these key sources of natural nutrients at the start of each day, promotes a healthy, functioning memory, and not leaving your brain starving for energy”, says Lisa Middleton.
