Mohali: West Indies edged out India by three runs in a closely fought women’s World Twenty20 encounter at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium here on Sunday.

Harmanpreet returned figures of 4/23 in three overs while Anuja registered 3/16 in four overs.

Opener Stafanie Taylor was the top scorer for the West Indies with 47 runs off 45 balls. Deandra Dottin also produced a brisk 45 off 40 balls, but the rest of the West Indies batsmen were unable to reach double figures.

In reply, India could only manage 111/9 in their 20 overs. Dottin bagged 3/16 in her four overs while Afy Fletcher (2/15) also bowled well. Shamilia Connell (1/15) and Shaquana Quintyne (1/19) were also among the wickets.

The hosts suffered a blow right in the opening over as captain Mithali Raj was caught behind in very first over. Veda Krishnamurthy (18) was looking good for a big score with four well-struck boundaries in her 16-ball innings. But she perished while attempting another big hit.
