Melbourne, April 11: The Australia India Institute (AII) is delighted to announce a ground-breaking network of post-doctoral positions across Australia for scholars studying India.
The Institute’s Director, Professor Craig Jeffrey, said the New Generation Network (NGN) would stake the AII’s claim as a world-leading centre for India studies.
The NGN will initially see 10 three-year positions established for post-doctoral students of any aspect of India in five Australian universities with more in the pipeline.
Professor Jeffrey said the NGN would “mark Australia as a centre for the advanced study of contemporary India.
“The successful applicants will lead a dynamic graduate cohort charged with elevating the conversation about India around the world.
“The Institute recognises that it must move beyond a focus on the Australia-India relationship and build an organisation that can provide highly informed answers to the mammoth challenges and opportunities that face India both today and over the 21st century,” Prof. Jeffrey said.
The University of Melbourne, University of New South Wales, Deakin University, La Trobe University and Queensland University of Technology are the first five confirmed participating institutions.
These Universities will offer positions in fields that include smart cities, international relations, law, politics, and sport management. “We’re certainly making progress in locking down more positions.
“Universities are enticed by the idea of having a scholar in their state who will drive engagement with India, and who is also closely linked to a wider group of thinkers.”
